Dashboard Confessional and New Found Glory
Posted by Matt on Dec 18, 2009 @ 8:15am

Last night, I went to Atlanta to see Dashboard Confessional and New Found Glory.  I’ve been listening to Dashboard Confessional a lot lately, especially their album that just came out.  This was the first time I had ever seen them live though, and the performance was nothing short of amazing.  Chris Carrabba has energy, passion, and a range to rival Freddy Mercury.  His lyrics are poetic, his songs are melodic, and his emotions are honest.  If you have a chance to see them, you should.  Just don’t pay attention to the swooning girls all around you.  In fact, for all you single guys out there, forget going to the grocery store to pick up chicks.  Head to your local Dashboard concert.

Now, I hadn’t listened to New Found Glory in quite awhile, but they used to be one of my favorite bands.  So when they played many of my old favorite songs, I had a blast.  They even played my favorite song off their first album, which I ended up being one of the only ones singing along with.  I’ll admit, that made me feel kinda cool.  The funniest part about last night though was that it was an acoustic set for both bands.  If you’ve listened to New Found Glory, you’re probably as surprised with the idea of them playing acoustic as I was, but it ended up being really good.  It inspired me to try and get Manic Bloom to work up an acoustic version of our set.  We’ll have to work on that after the album’s done though.
All in all, it was a great concert experience to rival some of my favorites.

If out of all the concerts you’ve been to you had to pick one favorite, what would it be, and why?  And we know that probably everybody’s answer would be Manic Bloom (obviously), but for this we’ll exclude The Bloom from the running.

All Merch At Least 20% Off
Posted by Matt on Dec 8, 2009 @ 9:06am

We want you to have a Manic Bloom Christmas.  That’s why we’re offering everything in our Merch store at 20% off.  Also, we’re offering a Christmas bundle with 2 shirts and a CD for only $25, which is a savings of >25%.  So, with our prices so low you may be asking yourself, “How can I utilize this great deal to the max?”  Here’s some suggestions.

  1. Give Manic Bloom CD’s out as party favors at your Christmas party.
  2. Stocking stuffers
  3. Instead of leaving out cookies for Santa, I bet he’d enjoy some music for the sleigh ride even more.
  4. Buy the CD’s for $4, and try to sell them to your friends for $5.
  5. Buy a CD, learn the music, and then instead of Christmas caroling, go Christmas Blooming.
  6. Use Manic Bloom CD’s as coasters when all your Christmas guests come over.
  7. If you buy a mere 200 CD’s, the shipping is free (thanks to some weird PayPal calculations), so why not take advantage of that?

Christmas is the time for giving, so GIVE US YOUR MONEY!

Here goes nothin'
Posted by David on Nov 21, 2009 @ 10:40am

Everything is a process...  It's crazy to remember how some things start when you look at the finished product.

Most everybody will probably barely even realize it, but I've been working on the site for a good while, trying to clean things up and make it easier for all of us (and you!) to communicate well and more often.  By that I mean via blogs, stuff on our pages, comments, etc - not meaning I created a website so we could have some sort of intervention where we all talk about our feelings.  Though a digital psychologist might not be a bad idea...

Anyhow, I just launched all the new stuff.  Like I said - you probably won't notice much.  Small change over here, a new deally over there...  And there's a bunch of stuff on my list that still needs to change.  But believe me, it's better.  Unless it's broken.  Then tell me.

The deal is, I'm kind of a perfectionist (and I would say that the other guys in the band are as well), but sometimes that sucks.  Why?  Because I'll work on something for a really long time, and just keep finding new things to tweak, so that by the time it's actually ready for other people to see/hear it, I'm kind of disinterested in it.  So occasionally, I have to present things to the world, knowing that it's not really done to the extent that I'd like it to be, knowing that (in this case) certain pages might look weird, or (in musical cases) somebody might not catch the vision that I/we are going for...

I'm kind of anticipating a couple of hundred people to email me because when they get this blog in their email, something was freaking out, or they got it 300 times...  So, for any of that sort of thing, please accept my apologies.

For any other sort of thing - like someone not understanding what we're trying to do with a song, and why there's a part that sound a little rough because we haven't perfected it - I'm not going to apologize for that...  However, I will ask for you to hang with us.  We're all in a process...  Ours is just here on the web, exposed to everyone with a computer or iPod!  :)

And speaking of process, one of the songs on the new album is called "Thousand Angels," which you can hear on YouTube or on many of our Manic Monday videos, or download an acoustic version if you're on our mailing list.  If you want to hear a much rougher beginning of that song, here's my old band (Phase of Jen, with Joe Prichard and Tucker Caton) playing a MUCH different version.  (There's still time if you want to sing the "Na Na's" on the new album!  Record yourself singing them and send them to david@manicbloom.com by Dec 1st to make sure you're included!)

Austin Video
Posted by Matt on Nov 13, 2009 @ 9:47am

So we finally posted some of the video footage from our trip to Austin last Spring.  We went down to Texas last March for the Red Gorilla Festival and had a blast!  We stayed the night at Brink's parents house, hauled our stuff about a mile to get to the venue, and had a great turnout at our show.  It was awesome!  If you're in the Austin area, make sure to come out this year when we come down.

Also, expect more videos to come from this footage, depending on how long it takes me to edit it.  I'm thinking we're gonna have a video capturing people's reactions when they first hear Manic Bloom, the act of waking up several of the guys in the band (one with particular enjoyment), and even some live concert footage...filmed by David...while on stage!

It's gonna be good stuff, so make sure to check out our YouTube channel, at http://www.youtube.com/user/manicbloom, where you can find all sorts of fun behind the scenes peeks at Manic Bloom.  Here's the first installment of the Austin footage though, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_W2tcBTGmc

Ich bin ein Berliner
Posted by David on Nov 8, 2009 @ 2:49pm

I was reminded this morning that tomorrow is the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall.  Crazy.  I was 7 when it happened, and I remember all of us crowding around our tiny American television set (you know - the kind that you had to get out of your chair and physically turn a knob to change the channel, and had the strange 'space age' antenna sticking up that you had to move 5 times throughout your favorite show).  I just read that the wall didn't tecnically fall on Nov 9th, but it IS the day that it figuratively fell due to a misspoken word of a political pr rep.  Ha!

I don't think I understood the magnitude of it then - and to be honest, I'm not sure that I can completely understand it now.  There's a lot of stupid politics surrounding why the thing was built, but I'm just sitting here thinking about how it must have felt to be someone who lived there in West Berlin, and one minute you know there's pretty much zero chance to ever leave, and the next minute the doors bust open and you're gasping in freedom.  Heavy.

So - tomorrow (another Manic Monday: check us out on ustream.tv/channel/manicbloom around 7pm CST) - do yourself a favor and watch some clips on youtube of people taking sledgehammers to the freaking wall.  And take it a step further - find something in the world that you think is incredibly stupid and unjust and get your own (figurative) sledgehammer and help change it.  If you don't already know of something, here are a few options:
http://www.fallingwhistles.com/
http://www.compassion.com/
http://www.invisiblechildren.com/

By the way - I Kennedy said "Ich  bin ein Berliner" in a speech in Berlin in 1963, and everything I'd heard about it pointed to the thought that the literal translation was "I am a jelly donut."  I've always thought it was funny, but I just read on Wikipedia that that is in fact an urban legend.  Drats.  It would be a lot more fun if he really called himself a pastry.

Remember: send david@manicbloom.com YOU singing the Na Na's from 1000 Angels and you'll be on the new EP coming out around the first of the year!  Get them to us by December 1st to be sure you're included!

You're awesome!  Thanks for your support!!

Sing Along
Posted by Matt on Oct 27, 2009 @ 11:27am

Some of my favorite moments in life have been times where a band or artist has gone out of their way to make me feel like I mattered to them. Like when I got to go onstage in high school and play Jaret’s guitar for the last song of Bowling for Soup’s show, or when the guys in Pax 217 hung around to talk to me and my friends for hours after their show. I’ll never forget those experiences, because they went out of their way to include me, even though it would have probably been much easier not to. All of us in Manic Bloom have had similar experiences throughout our musical careers, and it’s one of the main reasons we do what we do. We’ve experienced what it’s like to feel like part of a band we like, and our goal is to always make our fans feel that way.

So, in that light, we’ve decided to let you all have a bigger part than ever in Manic Bloom…by being on our new cd. If you’ve been to one of our shows, or if you’ve watched live videos online, you’ll know that we have a sing along part on our song "1000 Angels". We want you to send us yourself singing the sing-along "Na Na" part, and we’re going to add them to our cd. We want that part to be full of the voices of our fans. Here’s an example of the song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNhJJHfBIgc So hook a mic up, sing away, and let’s see what you got.

Next Big Nashville and Texas
Posted by Andy on Oct 13, 2009 @ 7:23am

Here are some new Bloomer Bites for the week.

We had an amazing week with Next Big Nashville and we were very very blessed to be able to play a killer show on Saturday night at the Rutledge.  Thank you all who came out and supported our efforts.  Funny news about the Rutledge-- Last month when we played there, I was lucky enough to play the whole show, while not realizing that my fly was unzipped the entire time...yeah, pretty awesome....BUT, what is even AWESOMER (is that a word?) is that this time Matt forgot to zip his fly up for the Next Big Nashville show.  Now some may think that we planned it this way, but it was simply sheer coincidence that we did this, and I believe it is David's turn next.  Find out if it will happen next, by staying tuned to all of our upcoming Rutledge shows....ha, ha.

It was a pleasure to be able to go to the conferences and seminars associated with Next Big Nashville as well.  We were able to attend meetings that included Kevin Lyman and Sarah Baer from The Vans Warp Tour and see some long time familiar faces at the BMI VIP Brunch.  Other perks were being able to meet some bigger management companies and rubbing shoulders with some A&R associates as well.

Moving forward, we are still working on the album frantically, and hope to have it done around the New Year.  Hilde, Brad (our sound guy) and I will be going to TX to work on a number of different things, including recording music, partnering with Firemen Lawn Car, and playing a show at Texas A&M and the rest of Manic Bloom will come down later to join up with Dude Perfect in November.

Until next time, we hope you are all staying tuned to our page and we will continue to keep you up to date as more news is available.  We love you all and thanx again for your support.
