Ich bin ein Berliner
I was reminded this morning that tomorrow is the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall. Crazy. I was 7 when it happened, and I remember all of us crowding around our tiny American television set (you know - the kind that you had to get out of your chair and physically turn a knob to change the channel, and had the strange 'space age' antenna sticking up that you had to move 5 times throughout your favorite show). I just read that the wall didn't tecnically fall on Nov 9th, but it IS the day that it figuratively fell due to a misspoken word of a political pr rep. Ha!
I don't think I understood the magnitude of it then - and to be honest, I'm not sure that I can completely understand it now. There's a lot of stupid politics surrounding why the thing was built, but I'm just sitting here thinking about how it must have felt to be someone who lived there in West Berlin, and one minute you know there's pretty much zero chance to ever leave, and the next minute the doors bust open and you're gasping in freedom. Heavy.
So - tomorrow (another Manic Monday: check us out on ustream.tv/channel/manicbloom around 7pm CST) - do yourself a favor and watch some clips on youtube of people taking sledgehammers to the freaking wall. And take it a step further - find something in the world that you think is incredibly stupid and unjust and get your own (figurative) sledgehammer and help change it. If you don't already know of something, here are a few options:

I've always thought it was funny, but I just read on Wikipedia that that is in fact an urban legend. Drats. It would be a lot more fun if he really called himself a pastry.
Remember: send
