Rawk Bisquettes! Posted by Andy on Jun 30, 2009 @ 12:21pm
What up kids? Here comes another Rickety Roo Ramshackle Report--
We have all been very blessed to have each other in this band with so many new opportunities coming our way this fall. We say it to each other all the time, but I want to let you all know that this group of 5 guys, Manic Bloom, is like a brothehood, and words can't describe the bond felt between the friendships within. If you have been keeping up with our last blogs, we have some great stuff in booking, recording, college radio, and potenially even some TV/Film talk.
It is with great pleasure that we get to inform you of our new posting from our good friends at Ourstage. Please check out the amazing blog that was written about us on their website. It is very well done and props to Brink for taking the lead on the interview since unfortunately, none of the rest of us could attend. Let it be known, we are hoping to take another victory before the end of the year....we will be calling all of you to battle when the time is right. We love you all for helping in the past on Ourstage.com
We had an awesome time this past weekend with my surprise birthday party on Friday (Thank you Addy), a great show at 12th and Porter put together by Big Poppa and The Positive Spin, and a huge highlight....new photos are on the way!!!!! We spent all day Sunday in the photo studio with photographer phenomenon Bex Shepherd and some wonderful image support personnel -- Kathryn Kimble (Visage Bella) and Erin Brown (Prophetik Clothing/ Wardrobe Stylist)
We hope to get some more video blogs out to you all soon and in the mean time, please be sure to keep up with us on the webpage, forum, and myspace.
We love you guys and again, please continue to come and talk to us when you come to the shows....it pumps us up to hear your enthusiasm for our art!
Good stuff's a brewin' Posted by David on Jun 23, 2009 @ 11:27am
Hey Bloomers -
I was gone for the week (away from all tech - you should try it - it's fun!) and sat down to 200 emails in my inbox! Ack! Not completely unrelated, I'm thinking about buying an iPhone. Three guys in the band have one, and they're basically complete computers... (Better that the one I bought for college almost 10 years ago...)
Lots of things are happening. We're having to reprint our EP because we're dangerously low... And by dangerously, I mean the theat level has been raised to red for about 2 weeks. Yeah. That dangerously.
As soon as we get the CDs back from the manufacturers, we're going to be sending a bunch out to college radio. SO: if you're in college, then make sure and request us on your campus station when you get back for the fall semester! We're going to be working with a company called Tinderbox Music, and they do great work. They're pretty selective, so we're honored to be part of their roster!
We're also going to be doing some stuff to ramp up some touring opportunities... More on that later, though.
Still working on the new music - hopefully we'll have more clips to share with you soon. If you're in Nashville this Saturday, you should come to 12th & Porter! Maybe we'll play a new song? (There's a question mark there because I suppose I'm kind of asking the guys in the band if we want to...)
Sitting At The Board Posted by Hildee on Jun 13, 2009 @ 8:03pm
Dearest Friends,
Hildee here, coming to you from the studio aka The Dungeon. I am currently working on one of our newest songs and it's coming together nicely. Think Jimmy Buffet meets Depeche Mode meets Little Richard all while wearing a cowboy hat. I'm telling you....this track is going to be a barn burner. It's H-O-T!!!
We are settling in nicely at the studio but have decided to take a new approach in the way we record by doing a lot of satelite work from our respective homes. Burn will lay some sickness down with the guitar and then send it to me. I'll sprinkle a little Hildekrunk all over it and then bake it at 350. Once it's steaming, I'll hot-potato it to The Brink who will tenderize it with some drumming. At which point, Roo will show up and start bringin' the funk, the whole funk and nothing but the funk. After that, it's on to Dave where it'll get a major face lift as he starts cooking up a story and some emotion. This process is proving to be very helpful in the grand scheme of things b/c it allows us to have some alone time with the song. Which, in my opinion, is where we come up with our best stuff.
We have 3 songs on deck right now and once those are nearing a completion, we'll be moving on toward more. The second set of songs will contain a couple of tracks that should sound familiar. Those being "A Thousand Angels" and "Answer." We are especially excited about those two because we've been playing them live for quite some time now and are just getting to the point where we can record them. They'll end up being pretty close to the way we play them live but don't be surprised if we throw in a few tricks to spicen it up. C'mon, s'what we do.
So that's about it for now. Just a quick reminder to all you folks on the mailing list, we've added you to our blog subscription which means you'll be hearing from us from time to time about whatever is going on in the world of Manic Bloom. Thanks for your support and interest. It's why we keep doing what we do.
Here's a little clip from the Jimmy/Mode/Little/Hat song I'm working on right now. This has never been heard by ears outside the band....so consider this a rare and valuable moment. : ) Enjoy!!
Summer Lovin' Posted by Brink on Jun 9, 2009 @ 10:54am
Well hello everyone, Brink here. Hope your summer is going well! Its starting to get hot here in Nashville - something that Burn, Hilde, and I are used to since we're from Texas..... That good ole heat - gotta love it.
So things here in Manic Bloomia are going well. We've been working on some pretty sick new songs. I think everyone's gonna really like 'em. I believe I speak for everyone in the band when I say that these new songs are gonna blow the old ones out of the water! I love being able to say that! Its rewarding to know that as a band we can move forward and just get better and better. We'll keep all you guys updated when we think the songs might be released.
We love 102.9 The Buzz here in Nashville. They show us some love and so do the faithful listeners. We were again featured on the Local Buzz show in a battle of the bands. People called in and voted for us or our opponent, Black Water James. We played a show with those guys not too long ago here in Nashville and they're great. But, we were excited we came out on top this last weekend on the band battle. Thanks everyone who voted for us! Its so encouraging winning these things consistently - it helps us more than you might imagine.
We're looking forward to finishing these songs up and hitting the road again to hang out with you all! Much love.....
Brink
PS - keep an eye out for us on Ourstage.com, you might be seeing us there soon......
Recording on the Rise! Posted by Andy on Jun 2, 2009 @ 9:01am
Guys,
Just wanted to let you all know that we are very excited to say that we started setting up a little last night for new writing and recording in the next month. This is a very monumental stage since we have not had a chance to really concentrate on writing/recording in the past year much. Please keep a close watch on us as we hope to not only be posting blogs about the new material, but if you're lucky, you may even be able to watch a video or two of us in the process...LIVE!
Again, we love you guys and hope that you will continue to be a blessing to us for many years to come. Hit us up on here with comments and/or write us a message/comment on myspace.
Behind the Scene - PERIOD! Posted by Andy on May 19, 2009 @ 7:36am
There are so many details that go into being a band. I have to admit, when I was younger and just dreaming of being a RockStar, I never imagined all that frivolous work that each band member had to do to uphold a high standard of nobility and integrity in the name of Rock. I thought they just write the songs, produce them and get up there and bleed and sweat for the fun of music. Oh, no! On the contrary, there is much more to it than that...especially when just starting out. Not very many people think about the booking, the web design, loading and unloading equipment, the writing and more writing, loading and unloading equipment, the disagreements between band members in stylistic point of views, the wife, the girlfriend, the parents, the day job, the website upkeep, the flyers, the booking of other bands on your bill, the press, the airplay, the calling of the venue, loading and unloading equipment, finding time to meet during the week to practice, time to relax (what's that???), meet with the manager, record a CD, loading and unloading equipment, keep up with the fans and always, ALWAYS wear a smile when in public, blog, try to fit a meal in here and there, exercise to keep up on stage with the band that is just a little better than you, "Image is everything in this industry"...fashion, fashion, fashion, The shower, shave, and brush your teeth in a gas station restroom....I could go on, but you get the pictures....if it were only as easy as grabbing my bass, plugging in night after night and playing our music. PERIOD. I guess we will look back when that finally happens and say, Remember when.....
It's already May?? Posted by David on May 15, 2009 @ 10:41pm
I'm amazed at how time is flying by... Seriously - where in the heck is time going?
Some cool stuff has happened recently: we won a mini battle of the bands things on 102.9 about two weeks ago (by TWO votes!! Thanks to everyone who voted!); we grabbed second at the SAE Battle of the Bands at the Rutledge last friday (Nashville band The Rust took home the trophy - they were killer musicians and had some great songs - I'm looking forward to hearing the EP they record for the prize. I'm pretty sure we're going to be playing with them in Murfreesboro at Wallstreet at the end of the month); we lost a battle of the bands at Hard Rock Cafe in Memphis last month... Lots of battles!!
We're trying to focus on getting some more songs completed/recorded. Our recording process is most likely going to take a while, because we generally like to record things over and over before we do the "final" recording. That way we figure out what works and what doesn't work before we spend all the time getting everything perfect. Hopefully, though, we'll be able to get some demos posted for your listening pleasure before too long... If you come to a show soon, though, you'll be able to hear the new songs before that!
I've still been working on the website - but mostly on the back end of things, so you probably can't tell! As many of you already know, there is now a subscription feature (top right on your screen) so that these updates will land in your inbox. If anyone has any issues with the website or subscriptions, etc, please email me (david@manicbloom.com). Other features coming soon - like individual band member pages, the ability to talk about shows after they happen, perhaps the ability to post YOUR MB related stuff on here... So much time, so little to do. Er.... Scratch that. Reverse it.
We recently had a couple fans remix two of our songs - we'll post those soon for your listening pleasure...
Thanks to all of you for continuing to spread the word! I'm loving getting messages from California, Germany, Australia, etc.... Awesome! We can't do this without you showing your friends our music!!
Battle Tonight Posted by Matt on May 3, 2009 @ 3:48pm
Hey Bloomers,
Just wanted to ask everyone to help us out tonight on 102.9 The Local Buzz. We're going head to head against 60 to Zero, for the Battle of the Bands tonight. Voting should start around 10, so call in at 615-737-1029 or text Manic Bloom to 49375. Even if you're not in Nashville, you can still help us out.
Also, we're actually playing a Battle of the Bands this Friday night at the Rutledge, here in Nashville. We're excited because if we win we get three songs recorded, mixed and produced by a well known producer / engineer. Part of the results are determine by crowd response, so we need you to all come out and support us.
Crazy Weekend and Ourstage! Posted by Brink on Apr 30, 2009 @ 1:39pm
Hey all - Brink here and we've got a lot to talk about. Last weekend we went up to Ashland Ohio to play a show at Ashland University. It was a long drive - really long. But it was a good trip all around. There's something about riding in the car with your four best friends that makes things go by a bit faster, ya know? We got some good video footage that we'll be editing soon to post up for everyone to check out.
The follks at Ashland were great. We got to meet back up with some old friends in a band called We The Living. They put on a great show and are super cool guys. Cool news is that they're moving to Nashville - seems like they're starting to make some good decisions finally ;)
The day after we played in Ashland we had a show in Murfreesboro, TN at Middle Tennessee State University - David's alma mater and a place where I currently spend lots of time - too much time. The show was to benefit the people of Murfreesboro who were recently affected by the tornadoes that recently went through damaging homes, businesses, and taking a couple of lives. The tornadoes were a really terrible thing, so we were honored to play the show to help out the Red Cross help those in need. It was sponsored by 102.9 The Buzz and 102.5 The Party here in Nashville.
One last and very important thing. WE ARE ONCE AGAIN IN THE FINALS FOR OURSTAGE! Ourstage is a great website that helps indie bands get their name out and their music heard. Please go to www.ourstage.com and click on the "Music" link up top and vote for us! We need your help! The voting process is very simple. You just have to listen to 15 seconds of each song one time only then pick who you think is best. Its also a great way to hear new music from other great bands of all genres.
Well, thanks for your support. We couldn't do anything without fans! You guys keep us going. Hope to see you in your city soon. We'll be playing in Nashville this Friday the first at Limelight at 10pm. Take Care, Brink
